New Music: Toni Romiti - TOMBOY
Toni Romiti kept promising on Instagram that TOMBOY was coming and now it's here!
The Chicago raised singer is coming to make sure all of us have her attention. She released her highly anticipated debut EP with RCA over the weekend, and after having the chance to simmer on it, we highly recommend it!
On this project, she gets a little help from the underrated, PJ, and comedian, DC Young Fly, who also happens to be a surprisingly super talented singer. The themes of TOMBOY stay clear and consistent throughout as Toni uses each song to reverse the gender roles and make us question what we accept o be true.
The music on this EP is typical of what we've become used to hearing from Romiti-- soulful and honest vocals, up-beat tempos, and lyrics that make you think.
For us the stand-out tracks are "Options" and "Never Thought" featuring DC Young Fly. Options is all about curving a guy who thinks it's okay to string a girl along knowing that she wants more than to just be friends.
"Never Thought" is the song on the EP that captures the feeling of falling for someone when you least expect to.
"Never thought I'd be sprung like this/ Never thought I'd wanna have your kids," Toni sings.
"I never thought you could have my heart/ Every night you got it, hope these feelings never fade."
The thing that makes TOMBOY so good is that it's true and smart, and we can't wait to see what Romiti will become over the course of this year!
