Short Film: Trip x Jhené Aiko
Who knew Jhené Aiko was just as much of a talented screenwriter as she is a singer/songwriter?!
Her short film, Trip, is a beautiful look into her journey, or anyone else's journey, of learning how to learn to cope with a lost family member. In the case of this film, its a 23-minute story of how she had to learn to deal with the loss of her brother.
The main character's name is Penny, and she's depressed poet who's addicted to prescription meds but is willing to try anything once to numb the pain away. After she meets a charismatic Danté who just so happened to intrude on her favorite writing spot, she goes down a dark twisted road that leads her face to face with her truth-- her obsession with avoiding pain instead of dealing with it.
We won't share too much more about the plot, because there's no need in spoiling your first experience with this piece of artistry. But just know this, you're going to laugh, cry, and feel a whole range of emotions watching 'Trip.'
Aiko's short film also includes some already released and a few unreleased tracks from her upcoming sophomore effort from Def Jam, Trip 17, that has yet to be given a public release date. It is expected to come soon though, especially now that she's finally dropped her movie.
And from the sounds of it, the album is definitely going to be a banger by any Jhené Aiko stan's standards.
